The 7th edition of the Southampton International Film Festival in the UK has nominated Iranian animation 'In the Crosshairs' in four categories.
Directed by Marzieh Kheirkhah, the short animation is nominated in the four categories of Best Screenplay, Best Artistic Achievement, Best Original Score, and Best Sound Design in the animation section of the event.
Produced by the Sooreh University in Tehran, the animation uses sand/powder technique, and is about a soldier who finds a bird nest with an egg in his tank gun.
Despite his inner desire, he is forced to fight and blow up a village at his commander’s order.
Kheirkhah received the best director award for her animation at the 2nd Kargil International Film Festival in India and an honorable mention at the Craft International Animation Festival in Indonesia in 2017.
The 5-minute animation has also gone on screen at some global film events, including the 16th Garden State Film Festival in the US.
The Southampton International Film Festival is dedicated to showcasing independent films and presents some 40 awards in different categories and sections.
The 7th edition of the Southampton festival is slated for October 17-21, 2018, in the UK.
